About Cruising
Every day, more and more people are discovering the value-packed pleasures of a cruise vacation. More singles, families, couples, honeymooners and groups of friends are cruising. A cruise includes all of your meals, accommodation, activities, entertainment, plus an exciting voyage to popular and culturally-enriching destinations all around the world. Cruising creates a comfortable environment. You can relax, be completely pampered, or go non-stop. Enjoy one great show after another. Let your cares float away!
Last year alone approximately 20.4 million passengers globally enjoyed a cruise vacation.
Cruise Lines International Association's (CLIA) annual State of the Cruise Industry Report (select link then scroll down) is once again projecting strong growth for cruising in 2015:
23 million passengers are expected to sail this year.
Cruise lines are enticing travellers with nearly 1,000 ports of call in new, exotic locations, especially in the fast-growing Asian market.
CLIA also revealed that member cruise lines are scheduled to debut 22 new ocean, river and specialty ships in 2015.
“From new ports around the globe to the investment by CLIA’s member cruise lines in new, innovative ships, it’s an exciting time for the cruising and cruise passengers,” said Adam M. Goldstein, CLIA Chairman and President/COO of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. “This year will prove to be another step forward for the entire industry as our members continue to strive to make cruising the best overall vacation experience.”
It's no wonder that more people are taking cruise vacations than ever before. And once you get a taste of cruising, you too may come back for more, again and again.
Ships and Cruise Styles
Ships range from intimate barge and yacht-like vessels to mega-ships stretching longer than three football fields. You can sail with as few as 12 fellow guests or with upwards of 6,000 passengers. Whether it's barge, ferry, yacht / tall ship (up to 250 passengers), small ships (up to 1000), classic modern mid-large ships (1000 - 4000) and mega-ships (4000 - 6000+), there are cruises designed to suit virtually every interest and personal preference.
Cruising styles include ocean, river, lake, canal, luxury, family, trans-ocean, expedition, cruise ferry, barge, and world cruising.
There are cruise lines that feature soft adventure expeditions to such unique frontiers as Antarctica, the Amazon Rain Forest or the African Serengeti. Or, discover historical legacies closer to home with enlightening itineraries to New England, Eastern Canada, Colonial America, and America's rivers.
For experienced travellers, destination-focused cruises specialize in culturally-rich ports of call with itineraries dedicated to illuminating such historic world-class treasures as the antiquities of classical Greece, the Polynesian paradise of Hawaii, the fabled splendor of Norwegian fjords or the castles and museums of Europe's rivers.
